MANILA, PHILIPPINES [TAC] – The International Labour Organization is warning that artificial intelligence could reshape work for roughly 80 million workers across Southeast Asia, especially in jobs that rely on repetitive digital tasks.

The assessment says the region faces both risk and opportunity: automation may displace some roles, but it can also lift productivity if governments and employers invest in training, adaptation, and worker protection.

Labor experts say the priority now is to prepare transition plans so AI adoption does not widen inequality or leave lower-income workers behind.
