MANILA, PHILIPPINES [TAC] – The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) recognized The Asian Compass as one of the media publications honored for their role in disseminating development research during the launch of the 23rd Development Policy Research Month (DPRM).

The event, held at Seda Vertis North, also marked the official kick-off of the “Saliksik at Balita Media Awards.”

PIDS Vice-President Marife Ballesteros underscored the media’s essential role in translating research into accessible public knowledge. “Every story written help enrich public knowledge and contributes to informed discourse,” she said.

Ballesteros stated that the awards were created to honor journalists who excel at transforming complex research into narratives that serve the public good.

Speaking on the DPRM’s theme, “Reimagining Governance in the Age of AI,” Ballesteros emphasized the growing responsibility of reporters in the digital age. She noted that as AI reshapes how information is created and shared, journalists have a more critical role than ever as “gatekeepers, storytellers and interpreters.”

By integrating the media awards into the annual DPRM, PIDS aims to bring research-based knowledge out of academic settings and into public life, ensuring that evidence-based information influences the nation’s future.
